Missing you on our Anniversary  / Amalia Bruce (Loving Wife )
Hello my Love; it's been one year and I miss you more than ever.  Our wedding anniversary was two days ago and John, Merlene, Johnny, and I went to dinner to celebrate.  I am picking up a new flower arrangement for you today and it's beautiful.  It's tougher than anyone can imagine, being alone and away from you my love.  You are the best thing that ever happened to me; you changed my life and blessed me with so many wonderful things.  I love you and miss you and think of you every day.  Hugs and Kisses from your loving wife. Al, your are my only true love; this was the first Christmas and New Year's that we did not share with each other in 44 years.  I miss you more and more every day and look back, wishing I could make certain changes like: telling you how much I love you, how much I depended on you, how you make me feel when we are together. I know that you new these feelings, I wish I just said them more. You are a wonderful man, you are my angle, you were God's gift to me. I love you and know we will be together again one day. Your Loving Wife, Amalia.   Close

I admired Al so....much. I loved his stories he used to sit and tell me about his life. I miss those stories as I miss the man we all loved and admired. Al you will never be forgotten, you have been and continue to be a great inspiration to me; I sometimes still feel you here and think of you often. Your grandson Johnny has a great deal of your character and so does your sons John and Joseph. I am proud to be part of the Bruce Family.  Close

To The Father That God Placed In My Life  / Joseph Bruce (Son)
I was born in Yugoslavia many years ago. My mother and I imigrated to the United States for a new life when I still very young. Life was not easy for my mother and I as we struggled to make a life here. All of that changed when Alvin Bruce entered our lives.  He married my Mom and asked me to take his name. He made us into a Family and I am proud to call him my Father.  My mother, my brother John and I loved this man until the day he passed.
He was the foundation, the strength and the love of our family. I miss you everyday that you are not with us, and on this Father's Day I want to tell you that I LOVE YOU.
       Your Loving Son,
          Joe

A few words about a good man  / Stephen Bryars (Friend)  Read >>
A few words about a good man  / Stephen Bryars (Friend)
A fine and decent man. He loved and cared for his family and his friends. He was a brave and trusting man, as witnessed in his last days. He was totally at peace with himself and the life he had lived. He had a most serious side, but also loved to laugh. He cared deeply for others.

The last time I visited Al was in his final few days. I sat down beside him, he looked up at me and before I could muster the words, “How are you, Al?” he asked, “How are you doing, Steve?” What a man! Barely strong enough to speak, yet asking and caring about how I was. I am fortunate to have known Al Bruce and for him to have been my friend. Al, you will be missed and never forgotten.

Uncle Al, though we were only able to meet a limited number of times and we didn’t know you and your family as well as we might have if the times and distances had been more conducive, I feel compelled to make an entry into your memorial log.

Your memorial has allowed us to know you and your family better than we might of even if we had been able to meet more often, and I am pleased to get to know you better.  Your lives and the lives of your brothers and sisters were shaped by the time and events during your young adult years.  These were years of transition, unknown consequences, and the need to be separated over long distances. You’ve all have traveled these years well and have much to be proud of.

Rest in peace and thank you for your service and the parts of your life that you have shared with all of us.  Until we meet again.  Salute to your memory.

To the family,

The passing of a shipmate is always hard but even harder still for his loved ones.  Al and I shared the same duty stations: Phillipines, Guam, Kami Seya.

My prayers to you and all your loved ones.

May he rest in peace.

It is wonderfu to see so many people pay respects to my dad  / John Bruce (Loving Son )
To me, my dad was truly a great man, he was my best friend.  He was a leader of men during World War II.  He was a true gentlemen with the highest level of Integrity and was loved and respected by all who new him.  He was a devoted and loving husband, the glue that kept us all strong.  He was an excellent teacher during his career but especially with his sons Joe and I, by teaching us to become strong, independent leaders.  My dad was a claim and quite individual who enjoyed his privacy.  There are so many things I could continue to say, but I will do that privately as we talk.  Dad, I love you and will miss you forever; your loving son John.  Close

My Uncle Al  / Barbara Loory (niece)
Al was the last of the nine Bruce children. Born in Colorado, far from either ocean, he chose a naval career! In so doing he continued a family traditiion of service to the country. His grandfather was a Union Cavalry officer in the Civil War and his g. g. g. g. grandfather fought in the American Revolution. His energy, sense of humor and zest for life drew people to him. I can see Al walking up to the pearly gates and boldly calling out "Al Bruce here!" in just the same way he always answered the telephone. I"m sure he'll be welcomed right in!
